This fenced park features a charming toddler play structure with swings and two-seater spring riders, plus a unique waffle wall not seen in other parks in Houston. There is also a walking path around the play equipment. Plan ahead, as the park has no restrooms and is fully exposed to the sun!
Hedwig Park, at 930 Corbindale Rd., is a great spot for a full day or a quick twenty minute visit. The park is shaded, making it ideal for Houston’s long summers. It offers multiple play structures and swings for all age groups, a fenced toddler area, and covered picnic tables with electricity. Much of the park is fenced and has water fountains, but it does not have restrooms. However, it’s conveniently located next to the Spring Branch Memorial Library, which has bathrooms just off the lobby. Remember to bring bug spray after a rainy day, as the shaded park can attract mosquitoes! Parking is usually easy unless the park is busy. In that case, your best alternative is the library parking lot.
Agnes Moffitt Park, located just off Hammerly and Beltway 8, is a beautiful park with lush greenery, especially pleasant during cooler months. It features a playground area, tables and benches scattered throughout, a basketball pavilion, a ball field, a dog park, trails, and a public swimming pool. The highlight of the park is its large disc golf course.
Moritz Peck Family Park, named for one of the early German settlers in Spring Branch, offers two playgrounds, picnic tables, and a walking trail.
The Spring Branch Memorial Library has been serving the community for many years. Its earliest location was an empty classroom at St. Francis Episcopal Church on Piney Point Road. In 1959, the library moved to a small cottage near its current location, and the present library building opened in 1975. The Addicks Reservoir was built in the 1940s as part of a federal project to reduce flooding risks along Buffalo Bayou, which runs west to east through downtown Houston. The maximum storage capacity of the reservoir is 201,000 acre-feet. Before Hurricane Harvey, the highest recorded water level for the reservoir was 123,100 acre-feet. During Hurricane Harvey, the level peaked at 109.1 feet on August 30, 2017, the highest recorded level for Addicks Reservoir. At this level, the water retention was 217,500 acre-feet. It is estimated that the Addicks and Barker Reservoirs, along with other federal construction projects on Buffalo Bayou and its tributaries, prevent average annual flood damages of $16,372,000 to the city of Houston. In addition to its flood damage reduction mission, the reservoirs offer ample recreation and nature observation opportunities across approximately 26,000 acres. Several parks, along with hike, bike, and horse trails, are scattered throughout the area.
