Memorial

Looking for a place to live in Houston, Texas?

You may want to take a close look at the Cypress Neighborhood. There are many reasons to fall in love with it. Here are some!

Located south of Interstate 10 (Katy Freeway) and west of Loop 610, Memorial is a community composed of independent cities and a varied size of gated neighborhoods. It offers great accessibility, housing options and excellent schools.

Memorial takes its name from Memorial Drive, the east-to-west road that cuts the neighborhood in half.  A solid, secluded homebase that is convenient for commuters, Memorial residents don’t have to choose between the neighborhood’s large lots or a manageable commute to the city’s heart. Situated west of greater Houston, it is an affluent, forested area offering the best of the big city. With its peaceful subdivisions and strong public schools, Memorial is a perfect place for families. It is also an ideal place for those working in Houston’s Energy Corridor or several of its major retail and office developments, such as the 37-acre City Centre, Town and Country Village, and Memorial City Mall.

Its limits are Bunker Hill Road to Highway 6 from East to West; Highway 10 to Buffalo Bayou from North to South. Some nearby neighborhoods are Memorial Villages, Tanglewood, River Oaks and Piney Pont Village. Commuting times are 41 min by car to HOU airport, 35 min by car to IAH airport, and 25 min by car to Downtown Houston.

A terrific water play area for kids of all ages, and one of the largest of its kind in the Houston area, Nottingham Park’s most impressive feature is the splash park. Other amenities include a playground, disc golf course, cricket field, lighted tennis courts, ¾-mile crushed granite walking trail, gazebo/pavilion and picnic area.

Memorial Park, a municipal park in Houston, Texas, is one of the largest urban parks in the United States. The park includes the 18-hole Memorial Park Golf Course, Texas’ top-rated municipal golf course. The park also has tennis courts, softball fields, track, croquet, swimming, volleyball, skating, cycling and a 2.93 mile running course. The softball fields are the home venue for the Texas Southern Tigers softball team.

The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center sits on 155 acres (about twice the area of a large shopping mall) within the park. A favorite date spot for Houstonians, the arboretum contains over five miles of nature trails, with forest, wetland, pond, and meadow habitats. It also includes specialty gardens such as Hummingbird and Butterfly Island, Sensory Garden, and Wildlife Garden.

Terry Hershey Park, which may not be as well-known as extensive Memorial Park, is a county park no less beloved by Memorial residents and visitors. It runs parallel to an approximately 6-mile stretch of the Buffalo Bayou in western Houston, Texas. Its pastoral Hike and Bike Trail provides more than 10 miles of pathway. The park also offers restrooms, a playground, picnic areas, and exercise stations to its visitors. Bear Creek Pioneers Park and George Bush Park, two massive nature preserves, are close by.

Shopping and Medical Centers

Memorial District offers its inhabitants high-end shops and restaurants in three major malls and shopping areas: CityCentre, Memorial City Mall, and Town & Country Village.

CityCentre is also home to Life Time Athletic, an avant-garde urban fitness facility and spa, and to Studio Movie Grill, housing eight auditoriums with premier cinema as well as a full-service bar and lounge, making it a perfect meeting place before the movie or a nightcap.

Memorial City Mall, a 1.7 million square foot mall, was constructed in the mid 60’s and renovated in the early 2000s. It has since become one of the city’s most popular malls with anchor stores such as Old Navy, JCPenney, Dillard’s, Macy’s and Target. The Mall is part of Memorial City, a city-within-a-city, consisting of world class office space, retail, residential living, upscale accommodations. The second largest medical campus in the Houston metropolitan area, the Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center, is located adjacent to the mall.
